Portrait sessions, start to finish
A portrait is not a headshot with better lighting. A headshot answers “who is this person, professionally.” A portrait has more room — it can be dramatic, editorial, quiet, or theatrical, and it is built around you rather than around a job title.
Sessions happen at the West Bloomfield studio, where light is fully controlled, or on location across Metro Detroit when the setting is part of the story.
Talk it through
Before anything is scheduled we discuss what the portrait is for and what it should feel like. References help. So does knowing what you have hated about previous photos of yourself.
Build the frame
Lighting is shaped for your face rather than pulled from a preset. Wardrobe, background, and mood are decided together, and you are directed through every frame.
Finish by hand
Selected images are retouched individually. The goal is you on a very good day, not a smoothed-over version of someone else.
What is the difference between a portrait and a headshot?
A headshot is a tight, professional crop built for credibility at small sizes — bios, LinkedIn, company pages. A portrait is wider in every sense: more of the body, more environment, more mood. Portraits are chosen when the image needs to say something beyond a job title.
What should I wear for a portrait session?
Solid colors and clothing that fits well photograph best, but portraits allow far more range than headshots — texture, layers, and stronger colors all work. Bring several options and we will decide together once we see them under the lights.
Can I bring more than one outfit?
Yes, and it is encouraged. Two or three looks in a single session gives a set of images with genuine variety rather than one frame repeated at slightly different angles.
Do you photograph couples and families?
Yes. Group portraits are photographed with the same lighting and direction as individual work. Group sessions need a little more time, so mention how many people when you inquire.
How long until I see the images?
You see frames on screen during the session itself. Final retouched files are typically delivered within a few business days of your selections.
