Senior portraits, done properly
Senior photos get looked at for decades. They end up framed on a wall, in a graduation announcement, and eventually in a slideshow at a wedding. That is a reason to treat them as portraits rather than as a rushed appointment in a school gym.
Sessions run at the West Bloomfield studio or on location across Metro Detroit — campus, downtown, a hangar, a field, wherever fits the person.
Plan with the senior
The session is built around the person being photographed, not just the parent booking it. Interests, sports, instruments, cars, and pets all belong in the frame if they matter.
Shoot several looks
A typical session covers a formal look, a relaxed look, and something that reflects what they are actually into. Outfit changes are built into the schedule.
Deliver for real use
Files are delivered in crops that work for announcements, yearbook submission, and social profiles, so nothing has to be awkwardly re-cropped later.
When should senior portraits be taken?
Summer before senior year is the most common window, since it leaves time for yearbook deadlines and graduation announcements. Fall works well for outdoor color. If your school has a hard yearbook submission date, book at least a few weeks ahead of it.
How many outfits should we bring?
Two to four. One dressier, one casual, and one or two that reflect what the senior actually does — a uniform, an instrument, a letterman jacket. Bring them on hangers.
Can parents come to the session?
Yes, and for younger seniors it usually helps. That said, most seniors relax faster with fewer people watching, so parents are often happiest reviewing images between outfit changes.
Do you shoot on location or in studio?
Both, and many sessions combine them. Studio gives clean, controlled, timeless images. Location adds context and seasonal color. If you want both, mention it when booking so enough time is scheduled.
Do you do yearbook-compliant photos?
Yes. Most schools require a specific crop and background. Tell me your school\u2019s requirements when booking and a compliant frame will be shot alongside everything else.
