What a headshot session actually looks like
Most people arrive slightly tense. They have been told to "just be natural" by someone holding a phone, and it did not go well. A real session is nothing like that — you are directed continuously, and you see the images as we go.
Sessions run at the West Bloomfield studio or on location anywhere across Metro Detroit. Individuals, founders, attorneys, physicians, and full corporate teams.
Plan the look
Before you arrive we talk through where the images will be used — company bio, LinkedIn, press, speaking. That decides wardrobe, crop, and how formal the lighting should be.
Shoot and direct
You are coached through posture, angle, and expression from the first frame. Nothing is left to instinct. Most people relax around the eight-minute mark.
Review and retouch
You choose your favorites from the screen during the session. Selected frames are retouched by hand — skin cleaned up without turning plastic.
How long does a headshot session take?
Individual sessions typically run 45 minutes to an hour, which allows time to settle in, shoot two or three looks, and review images together. Corporate team sessions are scheduled in shorter individual slots and coordinated so the working day is not disrupted.
What should I bring?
Two or three outfit options on hangers, steamed. Solid mid-to-deep colors photograph best. A blazer is the single most useful item you can bring, since it gives you a formal and a relaxed look in the same session. There is a full guide in the Journal.
Do you photograph teams on location?
Yes. On-site sessions across Metro Detroit are common, particularly for law firms, medical practices, and offices where pulling twenty people out for travel is not realistic. A full lighting setup is brought to you and matched to your existing team images.
How many final images do I receive?
You select your favorites and those are fully retouched and delivered in both horizontal and square crops, so the same session covers a website bio and a LinkedIn profile without recropping awkwardly.
How soon will I get the photos?
Selected images are usually delivered within a few business days. If you have a hard deadline — a press release, a conference programme, a website launch — say so when booking and it will be scheduled around that.
I photograph badly. Will this work?
Almost everyone says this. In nearly every case the problem was not the face, it was a phone held below eye level with no direction. Being told exactly what to do, continuously, is what changes the result.
